Coronavirus: What you need to know
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. As of January 21, 2020, Wuhan, China has 224 confirmed cases, with 3 mortalities. 1 confirmed case has been reported each in Thailand, Japan, and South Korea, all with a history of traveling to China. Currently, in the Philippines 1 case of a 5-year-old patient who traveled from Wuhan, China to Cebu was being investigated.
WHO has confirmed human to human transmission of the disease.
